Guardrails before you let an agent trade

Funding caps, review-before-place defaults, kill switches, and session hygiene for Robinhood Agentic accounts.

Connecting MCP is the easy part. The failure mode is an unconstrained agent with buying power. Set these controls before the first live order.

Account boundary

  • Fund the Agentic account with a pilot ceiling only.
  • Keep long-term holdings in your primary account — agents trade only in Agentic.
  • Revisit the ceiling after a week of logs, not after a hot streak.

Confirmation defaults

Robinhood’s equity tools expect review before place unless you explicitly say to skip review. A generic “place this order” is not a bypass. Keep that default.

Kill switch

  1. Define a STOP phrase in your standing instructions.
  2. On STOP: cancel open agent-originated orders, refuse new place_* calls, and summarize positions.
  3. If the host misbehaves, disconnect the Robinhood Trading MCP connector entirely.

The prompt templates with a STOP rule bake this in.

Session hygiene

  • Re-state account_number and caps at the start of every session.
  • Log every approved order (symbol, size, rationale, time).
  • Never paste API secrets into chat — Robinhood MCP auth is browser OAuth.
  • Assume the agent can err; you own the blotter.
