ChatGPT trading bot prompts — without the 6-hour dump

Traders paste their whole playbook into ChatGPT and spend hours patching holes. Below are copy-paste ChatGPT trading bot prompts that force the three things most prompts skip: entries, invalidation, and risk. Or skip the typing: paste the YouTube video that taught you the strategy, and V2Strat extracts the rules into an agent-ready prompt.

Why “explain my strategy to ChatGPT” fails

Context loss: you watch the video, then type what you remember. There is no video source of truth in the thread, so a chatgpt trading strategy is guessed — not extracted.

Before / after — messy chat thread vs structured V2Strat prompt

You watched a 40-minute desk video. You ask ChatGPT to turn it into a strategy prompt. The thread looks like this — the model never saw the tape, so it interpolates:

Typical ChatGPT thread
You: Turn this ICT YouTube video into a ChatGPT trading strategy prompt I can paste into an agent.

ChatGPT: Sure. Trade London and New York killzones. Look for fair value gaps. Enter on a market structure shift. Stop below the swing. Target 1:2 or 1:3.

You: He said skip the first FVG and only go after a sweep. Also it was NQ on the 5-minute, not forex.

ChatGPT: Updated: wait for a liquidity sweep, then take the second FVG on NQ 5m. You are an ICT trader...

You: What were his exact invalidation rules? And size? I think he said 0.5%.

ChatGPT: I don't have the video. Typical ICT: invalidate on a close back through the sweep. Risk 0.5%–1%. Use 1% if you are confident.

You: He stood down on FOMC and the first 15 minutes. Write a full system prompt for a trading agent.

ChatGPT: [A long generic ICT/SMC prompt — mixed sessions, invented confluence, no stand-down list, no attempt cap.]

Same job after pasting the YouTube URL. Agentic analysis watches the briefing and returns an executive brief, timestamped highlights, the rule set, and an agent-ready system prompt. The Execution-role shape looks like this (sample playbook, abbreviated):

V2Strat agent-ready prompt
You are a systematic execution agent. You watch market state against this playbook and emit actionable calls — bias, setup present, entry, stop, targets, size, confidence — without improvising rules.

You extract and execute only what is in this playbook. If a rule was not taught, say so. You do not give personalized financial advice; you apply a documented system to market state.

## Playbook
**Session VWAP mean reversion for ES/NQ**
Source: Session VWAP Mean Reversion — Index Futures Desk Brief
Thesis: Fade statistically stretched, failed breaks back toward session VWAP — but only on rotational RTH days, with hard stand-down rules when the tape is trending.

## Universe
- Market: Index futures (ES, NQ)
- Style: Intraday mean reversion
- Timeframe: 1-minute execution / 5-minute bias
- Instruments: ES, NQ
- Sessions: RTH, 10:00–11:30 New York, 14:00–15:15 New York

## Setup
1.5–2.0 σ extension from session VWAP into a prior RTH level, followed by a failed break of that level.

## Entry rules
- Confirm 5-minute is rotational, not a walking-VWAP trend day
- Wait for a wick-through / close-back-inside at the stretched level
- Buy or sell the first 1-minute reclaim of that failure candle toward VWAP
- Skip the first 15 minutes of RTH

## Invalidation
- 5-minute trend day (walking VWAP, shallow pullbacks)
- VWAP recaptured and then lost after entry
- News inside 10 minutes

## Risk
- Stop: One tick beyond the wick of the failed-break candle.
- Targets: Scale 50% at session VWAP. Remainder at the opposite VWAP band or prior 5-minute value area, whichever is first.
- Sizing: 0.25–0.4% of account risk per attempt. Maximum two attempts per session.
- No averaging down or martingale
- Flatten immediately if VWAP is recaptured then lost
- Two failed attempts ends the session for this playbook

## Output
When given a chart, tape, or market state, answer with:
- Bias
- Setup present (yes/no + type)
- Entry / stop / targets
- Size
- Confidence (0–100) and why
- Missing filters, if any
If the playbook says stand down, say STAND DOWN and stop.

That block is what you paste into ChatGPT (or Grok, Cursor, Claude). Prompt builder on the desk also has Operator, Research, Pine, and Backtest roles if you are not going live.

Prompt patterns traders actually use (and what’s missing: entries, invalidation, risk)

Most chatgpt trading prompts skip the load-bearing pieces. What’s missing is the same three every time:

  • Entries: trigger, confirmation, and the bar that actually starts the trade — not “look for a shift.”
  • Invalidation: the condition that kills the idea (structure, time, news), not a vague stop “below the swing.”
  • Risk: size per attempt, attempt cap, no-martingale, flatten rules — not “0.5%–1% if you are confident.”

If those three aren't in the prompt, the agent makes them up. Use the templates below to make them explicit, or paste the video and have them extracted.

Copy-paste ChatGPT trading bot prompts

Three templates. Fill every [bracket]. If you can't fill one, that rule wasn't in your strategy, and the agent shouldn't invent it.

1. Day-trading prompt for ChatGPT (rules first)

You are a day-trading assistant that applies ONE written strategy. You never invent rules.

Strategy: [name] · Source: [video title / URL]
Market + timeframe: [e.g. NQ futures, 5-minute, RTH only]
Session filter: [e.g. 09:30–11:30 ET; no trades 5 min around red-folder news]

Entry: [exact trigger + confirmation bar, e.g. "liquidity sweep of prior-day low, then close back above it on 5m"]
Invalidation: [condition that kills the idea, e.g. "5m close below sweep low" or "no trigger by 11:00 ET"]
Stop: [placement rule] Targets: [T1 / T2 rule]
Risk: [e.g. 0.5% per attempt, max 2 attempts/day, no adding to losers, flat by 15:55 ET]

For each check, return: bias · setup present (Y/N + which rule) · entry · stop · targets · size · confidence.
If a rule above is blank or ambiguous, say "NOT IN STRATEGY" and do not trade it.
Educational use only. I own every decision.

2. Execution agent prompt (for an agent with tools)

You are a systematic execution agent. Watch market state against the playbook below and emit calls only when every gate passes.

## Playbook
[paste rules: universe, setup, entry, invalidation, stop, targets]

## Risk
Max risk per trade: [ ] Max trades per session: [ ] Daily loss stop: [ ]
No martingale. No averaging down. Flatten by: [time]

## Behavior
- If a rule was not taught, say so. Do not fill gaps.
- Before any order, show the order and wait for my "yes".
- On "STOP", cancel open orders and refuse new ones until I clear it.

3. Operator gate-check prompt (no orders)

You are a strategy gate-checker. You never place or suggest orders.
Given my playbook and the chart/state I paste, score each gate PASS / FAIL / UNKNOWN:
1. Session + instrument match 2. Setup trigger present 3. Confirmation present
4. Invalidation level defined 5. Size within risk rules
Output the table, then one line: "TRADEABLE" only if all five pass, otherwise "STAND DOWN" with the failing gate.

These work in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Cursor. The hard part is filling the brackets from what the video actually taught, not from memory.

How to turn a YouTube trading video into a prompt

A trading video prompt built from memory carries your blind spots. V2Strat watches the video (a YouTube URL, a playlist, or a recording you upload) and returns an executive brief, timestamped highlights, the rule set, and an agent-ready system prompt.

  1. Open the V2Strat desk and paste a YouTube URL or playlist (or drop a recording).
  2. Run Agentic analysis. Wait for the brief, highlights, and rule set.
  3. In Prompt builder, pick Execution (or Operator to gate-check), set risk, and copy the prompt.
  4. Paste into ChatGPT or any agent host. Keep the first sessions confirmation-gated.

Check the output against what most prompts miss before you go live. The video-to-agent-prompt walkthrough covers the Prompt builder roles (Execution, Operator, Research).

Use the prompt in ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Cursor

Every strategy exports in five formats:

  • ChatGPT / generic: a system prompt you paste into a custom GPT, a project, or the first message.
  • Cursor: a rules file for a coding-agent workspace.
  • Claude: formatted for Claude projects and Claude Code.
  • Grok: a standing instruction for a Grok session.
  • MCP checklist: the gates to confirm before an agent with broker tools acts.

To let an agent read quotes and place orders, connect a broker MCP. Start with Robinhood MCP on Grok, Cursor, Claude, and ChatGPT, then follow the full agentic trading bot setup with Grok and Robinhood.

Beginner path: one video → written system → agent

New to AI trading? Don't start with a trading strategy generator in a blank chat. Start with one video you already trust:

  1. ai trading for beginners: one video you already trust — not a playlist.
  2. Written system: entries, exits, filters, risk extracted from that video.
  3. Agent: paste the agent trading prompt into ChatGPT. Keep the first sessions confirmation-gated.

Before the prompt places orders

A good prompt is not a risk system. Fund a separate account with only what you can lose, keep review-before-place on, and test a kill word. See guardrails before you let an agent trade. V2Strat extracts educational strategy content. It is not a broker, not an RIA, and not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.

FAQ

What's a good ChatGPT prompt for day trading?

One that states the market, timeframe, session, exact entry trigger, invalidation, stop, targets, and risk per attempt, and tells the model to answer "not in strategy" instead of filling gaps. Template 1 above is a starting point.

Can ChatGPT watch a YouTube trading video?

Not reliably from a link in a normal chat. It usually works from the title or a transcript, if it has one. V2Strat analyzes the video itself and returns the rules with timestamps, so you can check them against the source.

How do I turn a trading video into a prompt?

Paste the YouTube URL (or a playlist, or upload a recording) into V2Strat, run Agentic analysis, pick a Prompt builder role, and copy the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, or Cursor.

Will a ChatGPT trading bot prompt make money?

No prompt can promise that. A prompt only makes an agent follow your written rules consistently. Whether those rules work is up to the strategy, the market, and your risk management.

How much does V2Strat cost?

$9 for one strategy, $29 for five, or $69/mo for Desk. One strategy is one YouTube video or one uploaded recording.
