How to connect Grok to Robinhood MCP and run an agentic trading bot

Connect Grok to Robinhood’s Trading MCP, open a dedicated Agentic account, and run a V2Strat strategy prompt with real order tools.

An agentic trading bot is not a black-box app you install. It is an AI agent (Grok) wired to Robinhood through the Model Context Protocol (MCP), running inside a funded Agentic brokerage account with clear rules you control. V2Strat turns trading videos into strategy prompts — this guide wires the execution layer.

What you will build

  • A Robinhood individual account (or referral signup) in good standing
  • Grok connected to the official Robinhood Trading MCP
  • A dedicated Robinhood Agentic account with a deliberate funding cap
  • A standing strategy prompt from V2Strat that the agent follows before any order

1. Get a Robinhood account

You need a primary individual investing account in good standing before Robinhood will open an Agentic account. If you are new to Robinhood, use the referral link below — it supports the V2Strat desk and unlocks the signup flow.

  1. Open the referral link on desktop and finish signup or sign-in.
  2. Verify your identity and wait until the primary brokerage account shows as funded and in good standing.
  3. Decide an Agentic funding cap first (for example $100–$500 for a pilot). That balance is the hard ceiling of what the agent can touch.

2. Connect Grok to the Robinhood Trading MCP

MCP is the bridge that lets Grok call Robinhood tools — portfolio reads, quotes, reviews, and order placement — instead of only chatting. Use Robinhood’s official endpoint (same URL on every supported platform):

Robinhood Trading MCP
https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading

In Grok

  1. Start a chat and select the + (plus) control.
  2. Choose Add connector → Custom.
  3. Paste https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading and save.
  4. Complete Robinhood’s browser authentication when prompted. Open Agentic account onboarding on desktop if the flow asks.

Menu labels in Grok can move; if you do not see “Add connector,” look for Custom MCP / Integrations and paste the same URL. Auth is OAuth-style — there is no API secret to copy into a .env file.

Using Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, or Codex instead? The URL is the same; see Robinhood MCP on other hosts.

Optional: Cursor as a second host

You can connect the same MCP from Cursor (Settings → Tools & MCPs → Connect) or drop this into ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Each host authenticates separately.

Cursor mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "robinhood-trading": {
      "url": "https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading"
    }
  }
}

3. Open and fund the Agentic account

  1. During MCP authentication, Robinhood prompts you to open an Agentic account — a separate self-directed individual account (one of up to ten).
  2. Finish onboarding on desktop. If you started on mobile, copy the onboarding URL into a desktop browser.
  3. Transfer only your pilot amount into the Agentic account. Agents can only place trades in that account; keep excess capital elsewhere.
  4. For crypto through the agent, enable the matching Robinhood Crypto account and accept the agentic crypto disclosures. Crypto via agent is unavailable in some states (including New York).

4. Verify the connector before any trade

In Grok, ask the agent to list its Robinhood tools and read portfolio state. You should see tools such as get_portfolio, get_accounts, search, review_equity_order / place_equity_order, and the crypto/options equivalents when enabled.

List your Robinhood MCP tools, then show my Agentic account number, buying power, and open positions. Do not place any orders.

Confirm the account flagged agentic_allowed is the one you funded for the pilot. Never let the agent guess or default an account number.

5. Load a V2Strat strategy prompt

  1. On the V2Strat desk, run Agentic analysis on a trading video or recording you trust.
  2. Open the Prompt builder, pick Execution (or Operator for gate-checking only), set risk profile, and copy the agent prompt.
  3. Paste that prompt into Grok as a standing system instruction for the session — before any live order language.

A good first run uses Operator mode: the agent scores setups against the rule set and asks you before calling place_equity_order. Switch to Execution only after dry runs look correct. No V2Strat run yet? Start from the copy-paste ChatGPT trading bot prompts; they paste into Grok the same way.

6. Standing rules for the bot

Paste something like this above your V2Strat prompt so the MCP tools stay gated:

Standing guardrails
You are connected to Robinhood Trading MCP.
Trade ONLY in my Agentic account. Confirm the account_number each session.
Default: call review_* before place_*. Never skip review unless I say "skip the review".
Hard caps: max $X per order, max Y open positions, no shorting unless I say so.
If unsure, ask. On "STOP" cancel open agent orders and refuse new ones.
Educational use only — I own every decision.

7. First live loop (small)

  1. Ask for a quote and a bull/bear thesis on one liquid symbol — no order.
  2. Ask it to draft a small marketable limit buy that fits your cap, run review_equity_order, and wait for your yes.
  3. Approve once, then immediately ask for order status and position size.
  4. Say STOP and confirm it refuses further place_* calls until you clear the stop.

Troubleshooting

  • No tools in Grok: disconnect and re-add the MCP URL, then re-authenticate.
  • Robinhood shows an error page after you tap Allow: start the connect flow again and finish the Robinhood login, any device approval, and Allow within a few minutes. Sign-in requests expire.
  • Robinhood asks you to approve the device in its app: approve it there first, then restart the connect flow from the beginning.
  • Connect keeps failing on your phone: connect once from a desktop browser with the same account. Connectors are saved to your account, so the tools then appear on mobile too.
  • Cannot open Agentic account: finish primary-account funding on desktop; mobile-only auth often stalls.
  • place_equity_order rejected: account may not be agentic_allowed, or you skipped a required review/parameter.
  • Crypto blocked: state restriction or Crypto account / disclosures not completed.

FAQ

What is the Robinhood Trading MCP URL for Grok?

https://agent.robinhood.com/mcp/trading. It's the same URL for every host. In Grok, open a chat, tap +, choose Add connector → Custom, paste it, and sign in to Robinhood.

Can Grok place real trades on Robinhood?

Yes, through the Trading MCP, but only in a dedicated Agentic account that you open and fund separately. It can read quotes and positions, review orders, and place them.

Do I need a separate Robinhood account for an AI agent?

Yes. Robinhood opens a separate Agentic account during MCP sign-in. The agent can only trade the money you move into it, so fund only a pilot amount.

Why does Grok show no Robinhood tools?

The connector usually isn't authenticated. Disconnect it, re-add the MCP URL, and finish the Robinhood sign-in in one go. If it fails on mobile, connect from desktop.

Is it safe to let Grok trade on Robinhood?

It carries real risk. Cap the Agentic balance, make the agent review every order before placing it, use a STOP rule, and start in Operator mode so it asks before trading. This is educational, not financial advice.

Disclosures

Agentic trading involves significant risk, including loss of the entire Agentic balance. AI agents can misread instructions, act on stale data, or move faster than you can monitor. Robinhood does not supervise your third-party agent. V2Strat extracts educational strategy content from videos — it is not a broker, not an RIA, and not a recommendation to buy or sell any security.
